When it comes to cultural studies, the comic script created by David Morley, comes to mind. Morley depicts an all American family, gathered around the television screen listening and watching a news announcement. The family is graeful that they dont have to endure the struggle of people overseas and in "improvished" areas. The comic ends with the son say "I'm glad we are safe in our home." This comic tastefully pokes fun at the people that shun other cultures because what they see on television and hear on the radio. Cultural Studies is important to media becuase it makes MEDIA!!!! What people fail to realize is that it is important to evaluate your target audience when making a film or doing something in the media, through cultural studies you establish what is and is not acceptable in a particular culture. Without cultural studies, people will never see the good and bad of a particular culture. For example Italians, mob films make people from Itlay and Itlaian decent seem like they are only interested in mob activities, but films like "Ai margini della metropoli" change that image. The same for just about every culture. Cultural Studies can make or break a film, becuase it can offend or defend the lifestyle of a particular culture.
Cultural studies makes use of critical theory and literal criticism of race. In the media, cultural studies depicts ethnicity, social class, gender, and sexuality whether th viewers like it or not. Cultural studies have existed even since television's/radios' early years with the coming of the show "Amos n' Andy". These were Caucasian men acting as African Americans by painting their skin black and presenting some of the stereotypes of African Americans at that time. Fast-forward to the 21st century, cultural studies have been made use of in various films and television programs in more observing context. Viewers get to see how the average family of various cultures live together, such as an African American family in "Thats So Raven" or the Hispanic family in George Lopez's sitcom.
Cultural studies makes use of critical theory and literal criticism of race. This means that in media, they try focus on everything that is very common to society today such as, sexual orientation, ethnicity, social, politic preference, etc. Many sitcoms and reality shows are great examples as to how society today is shaped. Shows like Basketball Wives, Real Housewives, MTV's The Real World depict the lives of people who we think are just like us. People get wrapped up into these types of shows and begin to think they can live the life they live. Also in sitcoms, the media gives off a portrayal of how the average family operates. The media gives society a depiction of how the average family should be. Shows like, My Wife and Kids and Reba are good examples of that.
Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. Simply, the media focuses on common social practices such as, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc. Many sitcoms and "reality" shows are mostly staged but they pry on cultural studies. They try to convince audiences that this is the way a particular way of society behaves. Old shows such as the Brady Bunch or I Love Lucy were very biased in these regards as well. They depicted families that lived as though the world were a utopia and had no care in the world. They usually had funny and zany situations. All in all, cultural studies makes or breaks television shows and films.
Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. When they say this they are saying with media the writers and creators are trying to build a connection between society as it is now and as it is seen on film. Focusing on common social practices as sexual orientation, gender roles, and ethnicity is the goal of the media. They believe with the certain focus it will make the audience believe this group of individuals act this particular way.For example, they presented different problems with 90s black sitcoms such as moesha then they would have on caucasian tv shows suxh as, Dawson Creek. The settings of the neighborhoods of where the teens lived were subject to imply certain characteristics about the teens based on their ethnicity. The media gives society a depiction of average teens lifestyles both caucasian and african american.
The term cultural studies takes me back to African American images in the media class with Dr. Rosenbaum. The use of race and stereotypes in mass media has been prominent from the beginning. In the society we live in ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, political views, and any other things link us but separate us at the same time. These "labels" of members of society are portrayed in film/television. Shows like Tyler Perry's " Meet the Browns" and the Cleveland Show are representations of how black families live and interact. On the other hand shows like "Roseanne" and "Married with Children" show how caucasian families live.
Also cultural studies links back to my study abroad summer in China. Living in a completely different society from what I'm used to left me with a better understanding and a genuine awareness of cultural differences. For example in China the hand motion that we would think is "shooing" somebody off, means come here. If somebody from a different culture watched a film and saw this shooing motion they would not understand and think perhaps that this was rude.IT is important to have a well rounded view of the world around us as global ambassadors.
Cultural Studies is the study of a culture and the way they live. Cultural studies show research in race, stereotype, geographic and demographics, political views, sexual orientation, and gender. All of these qualities make up cultural studies. Some examples of cultural studies include family sitcoms such as "The Brady Bunch" vs. "The Cosby Show" and "Malcolm in the Middle' vs. "Moesha" even tho these examples show different ethnicities the values presented in each show are the same. Cultural studies show research to determine if certain mannerisms and thinking is only cultural.
Cultural Studies is the way people live by there social experience to life. The way an individual is brought up depends on how they will look at things on that outside world, therefore that will affect their cultural experiences. Social structure is held together by meanings of social experiences. For example more than likely people that are African American can relate to Tyler Perry Films because in those films it shows the cultural background of most African Americans.
Cultural Studies is just a way people live their lives and what they are exposed too. The way people will look at the outside world, is shown by the way they were brought in the world. Social structure go hand in hand with social experiences. For example African American family can relate to the T.V. show House of Payne vs. Malcolm in the Middle, because House of Payne relates to African American families.
Cultural studies are utilized in film based on religion, gender, age, economic class, race and nationality. The assumption is that you can appeal to a very emotional aspect of your audience by emphasizing the cultural differences and providing a specific POV in a cultural situation. Much like how in the movie "Babel" the media assumed that a single attack on an American citizen was terrorism because of where the attack took place. This appealed to the emotional side of Americans since it was produced and released after 9/11. It also emphasized the automatic assumptions and sensationalism created by American media when a country like Morocco is involved. Cultural studies have easy access to emotions with audiences because of the continuous tribulations to overcome cultural differences.
cultural studies seeks to understand how meaning is generated, disseminated, and produced from the social, political and economic spheres within a given culture. Cultural studies is the way people observe the media and the impact that the media has on its audience.Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. Reality shows like housewives of atlanta shoe their viewers a make believe life that causes the to want to relive what they see on television. In the movie Babel, when the woman was shot it was made to be a terrorist attack because its all about what the media wants you to believe
Cultural studies are developed in film constructed on demographic . The theory is that you can charm to your onlookers by highlighting the ethnic dissimilarities and giving a precise judgment. Cultural studies is how people perceive cultural backgrounds in the media industry and the impression that the broadcasting has on its spectators. For instance, in the movie Babel, when the American tourist was shot, it was automatically assumed in the media that it was a terrorist attack. And that particular weapon that nearly killed the American tourist was a connection to several parts of the world. Cultural studies in the media is used as a melting pot of various audiences to realize and understand cultural dissimilarities.
Cultural Studies in media highlights some of the great or bad events in everyday life of everyday people. The media takes it and uses it to create influence towards a certain idea or product. This can also be good or bad with the media depending on how they want to influence the viewer.
Media facilitates a culture's transmission to other cultures and vice versa. i.e. Every culture is influenced by other cultures around them, but with medias like internet, cultures are influenced by all the other cultures of the world.
Cultural studies in fil is used to draw the audiences attention by focusing on controversial issues. In the film The Help cultural differences are emphasized through assumed sterotypes of both blacks and whites, segregation and the concept that one race is better than another. This is intended to rile up emotions within the audience and pull them into the story based on cultural differences between the two sides of the film. This can be applied not only to races, but ages, genders and religious backgrounds as well. The use of cultural studies is meant to hit the audience close to home while tugging at their emotions.
Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. It is used to draw the audience’s attention by focusing on controversial issues. In the society we live in ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, political views, and any other things link us but separate us at the same time. These stereotypes of members of society are portrayed in film/television. In Dr. Rosenbaum’s African American Images class I leaned that the Cobsy Show is not the typical show based off a stereotypic African American family. Both parents are successful and not once did they ever speak on the subject of racism. In the show it is though as racism doesn’t exist or never did exist.
Cultural Studies promotes values, beliefs, and ideas. Cultural studies are seen in movies that are based on religious beliefs, social class, race and many others. In media, cultural studies is used to present and promote different ideologies. It can also be used as a source of manipulation. People are known to purchase or copy certain things because of the way it is projected to the audience known as consumerism. In many movies cultural studies is used to make the audience feel different types of emotions. For example, in the movie Motorcycle Diaries we saw how the director kept repeating a scene which showed people staring directly in the camera. As a viewer it made me feel emotional because these people were poor. The way that the actors stared into the camera with a sad expression would touch anyone that has a conscious. The media uses cultural studies to show viewers different controversial issues that goes on in our society that people don't talk about that often.
By using cultural studies the media promotes certain beliefs and values to certain cultures and races. When watching certain shows aimed at African Americans, it will depict a certain image to African Americans to fit their lifestyle and cultural values. Shows aimed at Caucasians will show something different because they are culturally different from African Americans. They typically use stereotypical characteristics to achieve this. As Yoshi stated above, it can also be used to coerce people into thinking that this is something they need to be doing. For example, when Steve Harvey made the movie Act Like A Lady Think Like A Man, a movie aimed at African Americans, a mass of black women went out and bought the book. Needless to say the media is very influential and use this study in many ways.
Cultural studies critics analyze the relationship between encoding and decoding in correspondence to cultural products film, television, radio, magazines, and sub-cultural formations. They assume that products within a specific historical context are by and for specific groups. An example would be the "A Different World", it was created by blacks for the enjoyment of blacks. This assumption spanned mainly from television. Another assumption is that cultural artifacts express and promote beliefs, values and ideas that impact individuals. This means that products such as the Christian television shows or real transmissions are used in a manner to impact our influence individuals, in this case Christians. Also critics assume capitalist societies are divided primarily on the basis of class, although more prevalent is the basis of gender. Critics believe that on the basis of normative action society created is reality or culture.
Cultural studies go into full dept of a film, TV, magazines, and sub-cultural formation. . Cultural studies is how people perceive cultural backgrounds in the media industry and the impression that the broadcasting has on its spectators. For example the movie friday showed how low income Africans lived in Los Angelos The father decribe all the foods he eat such as collard greens, neck bones, pig feet. These are some of the food that was brought up in the Afro culture.
Whereas media of previous generations may have referred to newspapers, magazines, and books, today’s media include an explosion of online/global networking systems (Twitter, Facebook, Bebo, YouTube), as well as a music culture that has moved beyond musical exchange to include the marketing and selling of culture, lifestyle, and products. Cross-marketing between and among corporately structured partners has become the norm. Many movies (especially those targeting young audiences) are released not simply as movies, but rather as carefully orchestrated campaigns of online, print, television promotions, soundtracks, clothing lines, toys, keychains—and in the case of Hannah Montana, even shoelaces and granola bars.
Cultural Studies is concerned with general and circulation of magazines in an industrial and informative society. Culture as expressed is not conceived as a notion to verify aesthetic ideals form and beauty.Cultural study critics have analyzed the effectual relationship between encoding and decoding of any given cultural products which includes: Film,TV, Radio, magazines, and those of sub-cultural form. The methods used in order to constitute Cultural Studies critics is Ethnographic,Structural and Ideological criticism , which includes but not limited to elements of narrative theory, genre theory and feminism. In other words, culture relies on neither a humanist or aesthetic approach but genuinely furthers the emphasis on a society where the viewer is able to grasp a social experience.
Cultural Studies depicts ethnicity and socially defines people by race, gender, age and religious beliefs. Sometimes cultural studies can stereotype society as a whole. Take a look at today's films, radio stations and television shows, some shows and films will show the typical American dream life where you live everyday with no problems. Then you have some movies that show reality for how it really is no "sugarcoating". Two examples would be Full House in the show they never really went through any life changing or traumatic experiences. Another example would be Tyler Perry's Meet the Browns every life changing and traumatic experience was thrown at the family from selling drugs, getting shot, having the power turned off, and even dealing with a dead beat father, but in the end of the film they were able to overcome all of the obstacles. Cultural Studies is used in media to grasp the attention of the audience to show and at times stereotype society as a whole.
Identify and explain some of the key assumptions of the Cultural Studies critics in regard to media. Cultural studies is an important issue when it comes to media. If a specific culture is accurately portrayed in a film or commercial it can lead to positive ratings/ viewers. Being culturally aware is a key factor when developing any media that you plan on broadcasting to a mass audience. In media, they have to be very careful to not offend any culture but at the same time appeal to particular cultures. For example in today's society we have films, commercials, T.V shows, and advertisements that we can observe cater to a particular race or culture. Cultural studies is a key factor to look at when developing any type of media
Cultural studies depicts ethnicity, social class, gender, and sexuality thusly giving the viewers our own rendition of what these cultures are actually like. If they are portrayed accurately and not just stereotyped. This is important because not everyone has the opportunities to travel and be exposed to different cultures and races. Meaning some people's opinions of other races and cultures are solely based off what they see in the media. BET (Black Entertainment Television) is a channel that caters to the African American audience by airing black films, television, rap and r&b music, etc. Their use to be a a show on BET called BET uncut. This was a show that played music videos that showed nudity, explicit acts and had a lot of unedited vulgar language. A lot of people watched this show and were pleased, while others called the women in the videos hoes and sluts. Eventually the show was taken off air, but the perception of these women still exist.
Cultural studies is the study of how people live there lives according to what there exposed to through the media, there social experiance to life. Its the way media impacts its audience through observation. For example in the movie Babel when the woman was shot on the bus, it was broadcast around the world as a deadly terrorist attack on a US citizen, and thats all the media wanted its viewrs to know, and as a result thats what the viewers took from it, as a deadly attack on a US citizen, even though it was actually an accident unrelated to terrorism.
Cultural studies investigates the way culture influences people and also how societies share meanings. In the media, cultural studies depicts ethnicity, social class, gender, and sexuality. It is how people perceive cultural backgrounds in the media and the impression it has on its audience. For example, the media often associates and portrays suburban areas with caucasian people and "ghettos" with African Americans. This comes from a long history of media painting a picture that black people are ghetto and whites are more conservative. Over time, audiences believe and mirror what they see in media. It is a revolving evolution. We are what we see.
Cultural study is how the world is observed from the audience point of view. It focuses on all aspects of the word including: ethnicity, social class, gender, and sexuality. Being culturally aware is a key factor when creating any type of media that you plan inputting on mainstream.. There are several ways television and media try to portray certain types cultures, leading you make false conclusions. This is a wake of call for a lot of people. Some people should just know you are stereo typed for a reason.
Cultural study is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which “culture” creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. Research and teaching in the field explores the relations between culture understood as human expressive and symbolic activities, and cultures understood as distinctive ways of life. Cultural study gathers it's research and produces theories based on literary studies, sociology, communication studies, history, cultural anthropology, and economics. Using these methods, the media portrays the images to the public based on what they've primarily observed from each culture. Example in movies, you'll see primarily African-Americans in areas known as the hood on ghettos. One example would be playing off the wildly popular stereotype of black people and friend chicken, which is seen in Popeye's chicken commercials which has a black female commercializing their food. another example would be a white person being depicted as racist and white women afraid of black people in many movies. News wise, it's hard to tell which culture it is aimed towards since the news usually targets everyone with the subject of Human Interest
Cultural Studies in my opinion the analysis of culture. Culture is the way people express their beliefs and lifestyles. In cultural studies ideology is the focus as well as the topic of discussion. The focus is to relate to the target audience. Take the movie Looper for example; with this film’s focus on a life of those in the future it gives audience who like thriller and action movies a specialized view of what the future would look like if time travel existed. While viewing this movie I noticed that the love caused people to take chances with their own lives to save others. This made me think about what I was willing to do for my love interest and whether or not I would give my life for hers. With the various quotations and jump cuts from the past to the present day of that time you can see how the old Joe’s motives were far from his younger self’s views. With all this in mind, cultural studies are a major influence on the media as well as those who view the media.
Viewers get to see how the average family of various cultures live together
Cultural Studies is an synthesing approach to the study of culture and society that responds to and builds upon, critical analyses of traditional disciplines and epistemologies as well as upon developments specific to gender, ethnic, and sexuality studies. Key to the Cultural Studies approach is the perception that language, gender, race, sexuality, nationality, and class organize identities, complex social relations and cultural objects. Also key is the assumption that the study of culture in all of its complexity requires cross-disciplinary work. Cultural Studies assumes that the object of knowledge will determine the methodologies to be used. In critiquing the traditions used in media, cultural critics avoid privileging one cultural product over another and often examine texts that are largely seen as marginal and unimportant in traditional criticism, such as those connected to various forms of pop culture. For example, the imperialism of White culture in America. Another example is when the tradition of Saint Nicholas is not celebrated in other culture because of the American traditions of Santa Claus. They are similar in character but one is thought of having more relevance.
Cultural Studies in media defines the perception of a lifestyle for a particular culture. This critique can be based off of race, religion, gender, political beliefs, economic class, age or gender. The media has a way to be very influential and believing when pertaining to cultural studies. For example, let’s critique gender and use African-American women. If viewers were to watch The Real Housewives of Atlanta they would assume that all African-American women were wild, argumentative, drama queens who do nothing but travel to different countries, host events and talk about each other. Based off of this particular show, those who are not African-American women would stereotype that specific gender and race. Mob wives is another reality TV show that effects cultural studies. This show is about Italian women who are the wives of Italian gangsters.
In conclusion, the media has a great influence on cultural studies. What the media release can be what others on the outside would believe.
The influence the media has on cultural studies is high. The media and culture go hand and hand they give us aspects also material that we use to form movies, music and other forms of media out of it. Its what we use to create ourselves, our ways, and what we do within our culture. Cultural studies mainly studies both our society and culture and how they relate to one another. Cultural studies also contain interpretations, artifacts, and methods of analysis. Cultural studies also is use in politics and the economy to show relations to each cultural they use of cultural studies is extremely important. In cultural studies their isn't just big culture groups that's targeted but it also targets subdivision cultural groups also it contains all groups of cultural not just the main and big groups. Culture studies can also show in media how how the media can have influence on a culture and shows how they act with being involved with the media.
Cultural Studies relies on definition of culture also politics as well. Culture is conceived of aesthetic ideals of form and beauty. The methods employed by Cultural Studies critics are ethnographic, structural/semiotic, and ideological criticism. Ethnographic films are made in video and digital media and may contain elements of text and animation. Semiotics include certain codes and signs in movies similar to "the language of the movie". Ideological criticism method looks to beliefs, values, attitudes, and visions of a particular aspect of the world. It explains how civilization views certain topics and often challenges the status quo.
Cultural studies is a highly interdisciplinary field concerned with a variety of aspects of social life, drawing on social life, sociology, and political and and economic theory. It defines the lifestyle of a particular culture. For example take the Tyler Perry Movie Madeas Big Happy Family. The Film depicts a dysfunctional family with a son who sell drugs, a daughter who thinks she is too good for her family, with another daughter who feels unappreciated and is always in competition with her other sister not to mention she has two foul mouth sons that don't respect her. Some aspects are true but not every black family has these types of problems. Media has a powerful influence on cultural studies but you can't always believe what the media or people say.
Cultural studies is an academic field of critical theory and literary criticism; the writers make a connection with how culture really is and incorporates it into their projects. Cultural studies, also analyzes the relationship between encoding and decoding in correspondence to cultural products film, television, radio, magazines, and sub-cultural formations. The cultural studies are how people perceive different cultures that are expressed and or shown throughout the media. In movies, cultural studies is used to give the audience the feeling of many different and various emotions.
Cultural studies is an different field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which “culture” creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. Research and teaching in the field explore the relations between culture understood as human expressive and symbolic activities, and cultures understood as distinctive ways of life. Combining the strengths of the social sciences and the humanities, cultural studies draws on methods and theories from literary studies, sociology, communications studies, history, cultural anthropology, and economics. Cultural studies opens a new way of finding answers instead of the same answers that will be around for all of time
Cultural studies implies that in the media it will we looked at from all sides regards to a topic. For example a news story they should look at it from the aspects of race gender and who it affects. For example the sandy hook shooting was brought to the attention of the American public by taking in the culture of nationhood and camaraderie in a hard time. These are cultural aspects the media use to promote the story.
Cultural studies is a scholarly field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis that was initially developed by British academics in the late 1950s, 60s and 70s, and has been subsequently taken up and transformed by scholars in many different fields around the world.Cultural studies insists that culture must be studied within the social relations and system through which culture is produced and consumed, and that thus study of culture is intimately bound up with the study of society, politics, and economics. Cultural studies shows how media culture articulates the dominant values, political ideologies, and social developments and novelties of the era. It conceives of U.S. culture and society as a contested terrain with various groups and ideologies struggling for dominance (Kellner 1995). Television, film, music, and other popular cultural forms are thus often liberal or conservative, or occasionally express more radical or oppositional views.Cultural studies is valuable because it provides some tools that enable one to read and interpret one's culture critically. It also subverts distinctions between "high" and "low" culture by considering a wide continuum of cultural artifacts ranging from novels to television and by refusing to erect any specific cultural hierarchies or canons. Previous approaches to culture tended to be primarily literary and elitist, dismissing media culture as banal, trashy, and not worthy of serious attention. The project of cultural studies, by contrast, avoids cutting the field of culture into high and low, or popular against elite. Such distinctions are difficult to maintain and generally serve as a front for normative aesthetic valuations and, often, a political program (i.e. either dismissing mass culture for high culture, or celebrating what is deemed "popular" while scorning "elitist" high culture). Cultural studies allows us to examine and critically scrutinize the whole range of culture without prior prejudices toward one or another sort of cultural text, institution, or practice. It also opens the way toward more differentiated political, rather than aesthetic, valuations of cultural artifacts in which one attempts to distinguish critical and oppositional from conformist and conservative moments in a cultural artifact. For instance, studies of Hollywood film show how key 1960s films promoted the views of radicals and the counterculture and how film in the 1970s was a battleground between liberal and conservative positions; late 1970s films, however, tended toward conservative positions that helped elect Ronald Reagan as president
Cultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which people create and transform individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. Reality tv comes to mind because some people can relate, keep up with their favorite celebrity, or what is trending. Cultural studies target people emotions. People live their everyday life based off media. Cultural studies represents gender, race, sexuality, religion, social class, etc.
Cultural studies could involve a certain race depending on the director of the film, for instance a director could choose to film a movie or documentary in Africa. The film or documentary would show and talk about the lives that Africans live and the way things are over in Africa it could give the audience viewing an idea of what the difference is as far as the lifestyle we lice over here Cultural studies really could relate to many numerous things cultural when filming a movie or documentary like music and etc.
Cultural studies relies on the definition of culture, but not culture in a sense of form and beauty. It is more concerned with politics. A cultural studies critic relies solely on ethnographic, structural/semiotic, and ideological criticism. The way of the world has changed though. Instead of people being divided into groups of class, their genders are more important. Gender is the most significant producer of social difference, but other divisions could be race, occupation, age, religion, education, political affiliation, and subgroups. Consumerism has become a problem in our society. What people buy is a way of showing people who they are. It gives them status, but people who have actually morals know that things like high priced cars and fancy houses do not matter in life. They are more concerned with how they live their lives and what type of person they are becoming. The way subordinate people resist dominant people's ideology is one of the most productive stands in cultural studies. Shows the Real Housewives of Atlanta and Love and Hip Hop make black people seem like crabs in a barrel. They only look out for themselves and they are always content in seeing someone else's downfall. The shows make African Americans seem greedy, ungrateful, and only concerned with when the next check will be sent to them. Cultural studies were meant to stereotype different people based on what religion, color, or age they are.
Cultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which “culture” creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. A culture study critic can research anything from background ethics such as; race, age, gender, or religion. These can all be important factors when studying the culture of the media. Today's media society has hindered the my generation and generations to come. Media now divides culture by telling society what is acceptable and what is not, from the clothes we wear, to the way we wear our hair, to the way our bodies are supposed to look. These are all assumptions of how the media perceives culture in today's society. Another element is the music we listen to. The genre of "rap" has changed over the years because of what people would rather listen to. Before media advanced, the lyrics in music were meaningful and able to relate.
Cultural studies make use of critical theory and literal criticism of race. This means that in media, they try focus on everything that is very common to society today such as, sexual orientation, ethnicity, social, politic preference, etc. Many sitcoms and reality shows are great examples as to how society today is shaped. Shows like Basketball Wives, Real Housewives, depict the lives of people who we think are just like us. People get wrapped up into these types of shows and begin to think they can live the life they live. Also in sitcoms, the media gives off a portrayal of how the average family should operate in our culture. Shows like, My Wife and Kids and Reba are good examples of that. Cultural Studies in media also have the power to highlight some of the great or bad events in everyday life of everyday people. The media takes it and uses it to create influence towards a certain idea or product. This can also be good or bad with the media depending on how they want to influence the viewer.
Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. This means that writers are trying to connect with society. They focus on social practices that are common such as gender roles, ethnicity and sexual orientation is the main focus of the media. This focus makes audience members believe that this particular group acts this way in reality. This creates a problem from individual groups and their shows and films. It creates stereotypes that are imprinted on particular cultures. For example shows like Basketball Wives and Love & Hip Hop represent black women in a negative image. Shows like these that focus on the lives of African American women give a negative representation of how the audience views these women.
Cultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which culture creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. Just like in the Rush Hour movies you have American cops finding it tough to make communication with Japanese Triads. it was harder for Chris Tucker to solve the case with the lack of communication. Combining the strengths of the social sciences and the humanities, cultural studies draws on methods and theories from literary studies, sociology, communications studies, history, cultural anthropology, and economics.Cultural life is not only concerned with symbolic communication, it is also the domain in which people set collective tasks for themselves and begin to change communities.
Cultural Studies creates and transforms individual experiences and everyday life. i think people basically use cultural studies to base their opinion on race, stereotypes, religion, etc. for example he riot in Baltimore has white Americans looking at African Americans as thugs and no good people. white Americans would never give African Americans credit for the work we've done over the years, they would never acknowledge the people who paved the way for use.. instead they would only go by their everyday life experiences which is how black people are viewed in the media
Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. Simply, the media focuses on common social practices such as, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc. Many sitcoms and "reality" shows are mostly staged but they pry on cultural studies.
Cultural studies are the study of how a group of people act and the way they go about everyday life. Critics in the media use this to group certain culture and cooperate the actions with their culture or race. Like the assimilationist mythology Which states that black anchors are selling hegemony, African Americans on the news makes racism worst by acknowledging black crimes as them reading the news stories to the audience.
Cultural Studies explores culture, power, and identity. In Cultural Studies, we analyze a wide variety of forms of cultural expression, such as TV, film, advertising, literature, art, and video games. As well, we study social and cultural practices, like shopping, cell phone use, and social justice movements. We are concerned with thinking about identity and social roles, including gender, sexuality, race, class, and nation. Cultural Studies research and teaching seeks to be self-critical, self-reflexive, and engaged. It challenges dominant or “normal” assumptions about who we are, in relation to others, and how.
For example in sit-coms The Cobsy show and Good Times: In The Cosby Show African Americans are portrayed in a middle class way. Cliff and Clare are very successful in their careers as a doctor and lawyer. They had 5 children and lived in a nice house. This shows that African Americans can live the American dream also, and beat the stigma as only living in the projects. It also gave other races and even the black community the opportunity to view a black family that consisted of love, humor, support, success, and beauty. The cosby show enlightened blacks about historically black colleges and the many opportunities that are out there for black people to be wealthy.
Good Times represented average African Americans as lower class, rowdy, living in the projects, and having minimum waged jobs. The show portrayed real life situations such as child abuse, death, poverty, racism, and unemployment. Minus all of their struggles , they were still a family who believed in God, and they were strong because of their faith. Both The Cosby Show and Good Times showed love and support of families. The parents influenced their children to be better than them and to make a way. They both expressed the importance of education. Rich or poor they were still people of substance, charisma, and strength.
Cultural Studies explores culture, power, and identity. In Cultural Studies, we analyze a wide variety of forms of cultural expression, such as TV, film, advertising, literature, art, and video games. We are concerned with thinking about identity and social roles, including gender, sexuality, race, class, and nation. I agree with Amber that cultural studies are used in the media to aim at products and services as well as depict a civilized household to manipulate people's moralities. This is only just a small piece of cultural studies revealed to the world. They use so many sources to create messages and deliver them to the public.
I totally agree with Ms. Jasmine Booker when she states, “The Cosby Show and Good Times are good examples of how we analyze and view cultural studies. I will also like to make my point that when I was taking African American Images in the spring 2015, I have learned that viewers viewed this show as whitewashed because the Huxable family were the only ones who did not have to struggle. Mrs. Booker has also done a good job by mentioning, “Cliff Huxable was a successful doctor and Clare was a lawyer.
Good Times is another good example that relates to cultural like what Mrs. Bookers has indicated in her post. According to what I have gained from African American Images, this sitcom was based on a struggling family who lived in projects in Chicago. In my opinion, sitcoms that are based on African Americans’ struggles bring gladness because they can get through any situations if they do not give up.
I will like to add that the Fresh prince of Belair is a show that is based on cultural studies. The reason is because in the theme song, Will Smith talks about how he was raised in a rowdy neighborhood and got into altercations. When his grandmother found out that Smith was getting into a lot of trouble, she depended on his uncle (Phil) to take him in and raise him. After Smith was in good hands of Phil, he did not get into anymore trouble.
According to the class discussion, cultural studies is a term that defines not being “humanist” nor esthetic but political. Editors also use encoding and decoding when they work with videos. When videos are encoded, that means they are ready to meet the standards according to the styles and designation. Decoding is where audience gets their own view on what is happening in the films.
Cultural studies contain three methods which are: ethnographic, structural/ semiotic and ideological criticism. I will like to elaborate on semiotics a little bit because one class discussion covered this term. Semiotics can include: denotation, connotation, signified and signifier. When denotation is used as a semiotic, it explains a literal meaning of something. When connotative is used, it describes symbolism. Signified is audio and signifier is images.
Cultural studies focuses on the way we live and how we carry ourselves in life. When I viewed most of the students’ posts relating to the topic, most of them explained how The Cosby Show and Good Times relate to cultural studies. The Cosby Show relates to cultural studies by focusing on the Huxable family who did not go through hard times due to Cliff and Clare having descent jobs. In the Good Times sitcoms, the Evans family did have to struggle because they did not have a lot of money to support themselves. Due to the Evans family being broke all the time, they resided in projects in a rough neighborhood. James tried to help the family by striving to find several jobs. Even though the Evans family went through a lot of struggles, they did not give up.
Cultural Studies deals with being non humanist and non esthetic. The media gives cultural studies a view on how different cultures are in this world through the media. Cultural studies gives encoding and decoding of how to look at a film and how to understand a film. It focuses mainly on how we live and how we carry ourselves. By looking at family shows such as Good times, or even Family matters. the media broadcast the cultural relation to African Americans. Showing how blacks are in households and how situations are handled. Cultural Studies play a big role throughout film.
Cultural Studies is a theory in which culture creates and transforms everyday life, individual experiences, social relations and power. an assumption of cultural studies is that culture is ideological. This means that our cultures and practices stems from our beliefs. An example of cultural studies in the media would be the Cosby Show. This show focused on a black family that lived in a middle class neighborhood, had a good education and didn't really have to face many struggles. At the time of this show this was a different outlook on black families because usually the only thing portrayed of black families in the media were poor black families.
Culture is defined as away of living within industrial or information society that encompasses all the meanings of that social experience. Cultural Studies Critics analyze the relationship between the encoding and decoding of any given cultural products. Assumptions of the Cultural Studies critics in regard to media would be that whenever a bombing happens the Muslims are blamed. The media constantly depicts terrorist as mid easterners so much that all people from the middle east get stereotyped as a terrorist. All from one event that happened over a decade ago the whole group of people are seen as violent people.
Cultural Studies are very relevant to film because that shows the producers writers and creators how to depict characters and their surroundings even their behavior also things such as major events in history are used to depict our culture such as slavery 911 white American history. Cultural Studies are the blueprints in which film are built upon having accurate data on different cultures helps promote continuity in films and keep the watchers inside a believable realm of realism.

Cultural Studies is the study of a culture and the way they live. Cultural studies show research in race, stereotype, geographic and demographics, political views, sexual orientation, and gender. All of these qualities make up cultural studies. cultural studies is a term that defines not being “humanist” nor esthetic but political. For Example Look At the difference of the show Blakish, and then go watch Modern Family. That is just how the editors and directors want things to be portrayed as. Not saying that they are giving other races bad looks. You can just see the difference between the two cultures.
Cultural studies is strictly a structural ideological criticism of typically the structure of a narrative and the genre of the piece. Now within a specific culture products are produced that mirror the lifestyles of those members in that social realm, and within those places of course members have there own established ideologies that they are aligned with and promote their personal beliefs, values, and ideas. The ethnographic method allows for a chance to decipher how particular viewers or receivers interpreted the message.
Cultural Studies emphasizes ethnicity and socially defines people by race, gender, age and religious beliefs. Sometimes cultural studies plays a major part in stereotypes as far as re-enforcing them. The thing about Cultural Studies is the reception of language, gender, race, sexuality, nationality, and class organize identities, complex social relations and cultural objects. An example that I took from one of the comments about was that of the tradition of Saint Nicholas is not celebrated in other culture because of the American traditions of Santa Claus. Also in sitcoms, the media shows a portrayal of how the average family should operate in our society. Shows such as, My Wife and Kids, Full House and Family Matters are good examples of that. Cultural Studies in media also have the power to highlight some of the great or bad events in everyday life of everyday people. The media takes it and uses it to create influence towards a certain idea or product. This can also be good or bad with the media depending on how they want to influence the viewer.
Cultural Studies includes culture, power, and identity. Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. Simply, the media focuses on common social practices such as, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc. Many sitcoms and "reality" shows are mostly staged but they pry on cultural studies. We are concerned with thinking about identity and social roles, including gender, sexuality, race, class, and nation. Cultural Studies research and teaching seeks to be self-critical, self-reflexive, and engaged. It challenges dominant or “normal” assumptions about who we are, in relation to others, and how. Cultural Studies also assumes that the object of knowledge will determine the methodologies to be used. We often analyze a wide variety of forms of cultural expression, such as TV, film, advertising, literature, art, and video games.
Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. When it comes to culture and the media, there are a lot of movies and directors that cross that culture path. The movie we viewed in class, Babel, is a perfect example of cultural studies in the media. In movies, the concept of cultural studies can be something watching a movie or television show that has a totally different culture them than what they are used to. It can also be when a movie or television show has many cross culture references. One show that has several culture differences is Orange is the New Black. Even though the setting is in an American prison, the woman in the prison are many different races and have different backgrounds.
Cultural studies takes a look at culture, power and identity as well as the critical theories. Cultural studies is used in TV, film, art and literature. It shows how we concern with identity and social roles such as gender, race, class and sexuality.
In class we watched the film Babel which displayed cultural studies in the media. The movie displayed 4 different cultures that had difference race, classes and nationalities. The families that were from Morroco and Mexico were displayed as poor or lower class but the familly from America and Tokyo were upper class.
Many films display different cultures to better relate to the viewers. It also gives people from other cultures a glimpse of each other lively hood.
Cultural Studies is a field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis. It uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. This means that the media (writers and creators) are trying to build a parallelism between society as it is in reality and as it is seen on film. Focusing on common social practices as religion, sexual orientation, gender roles, and ethnicity is the goal of the media. They believe with the certain focus it will make the audience believe this group of individuals act this particular way. For example, the movie that we watched in class, Babel. That movie had only 2 hours to depict the ways of life of 4 different cultures. They showed things like the differences between our legal system all the way down to the difference in the way we value our family. If we have never seen someone from japan or the middle east before, our opinions of them would be shaped based on films like this.
Culture is defined as a way of living. Cultural Studies critics analyze the relationship between encoding and decoding of any cultural products. Cultural Studies is concerned with the ways cultural artifacts procedure meaning link with the viewer in society. In the domain of culture the site of constant struggle centers around "Meanings" Dominant Class they attempt to neutralize the meanings that serve their own interest Subordinated Class resist this process and try to produce meanings that serve their own beliefs. An example of this was found in the movie Legend of 1900. A piano prodigy who as a child was abandoned by his parents. He is raised on the bowels of a ship, that he never leaves. Throughout the movie we see him interact with all the social classes that are on the boat but he never tries to change who he is to fit in. In the movie he given multiple opportunities to get off the boat but he never does. He creates a life for himself on the ship. He does not give in to the dominant class/culture. The African American man who was a famous jazz player would have been considered upper class because of his standing in society. He felt that he was the better piano player because he had experienced life outside of the ship and because he created jazz music.
Cultural studies focuses on lifestyle and how indiviuals are viewed based upon their demographics or upbringing. The Cosby Show relates to cultural studies by focusing on the Huxable family who did not go through hard times due to their financial state. Cliff and Clare had great jobs because of their educational history unlike most African Americans of this era. In the Good Times sitcoms unlike The Cosby's the Evans family did have to struggle because they did not have a lot of money to support themselves nor the education to obtain jobs to support their families.

Cultural studies focuses on lifestyle and how individuals are viewed based upon their ethnicity and socially defines people by race, gender, age and religious beliefs. They believe with the certain focus it will make the audience believe this group of individuals act this particular way. A good example of this is the Madea movies. How the portray Madea to be a old and religious african american woman is the same way that old people are looked at in society. this connection helps the audience feel as if the movie is real and make the connection between life and film. almost as if the movie is actually going on.
Cultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which people create and transform individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. It gives encoding and decoding of how to look at a film and how to understand a film.
Cultural studies is an imaginative interdisciplinary field of exploration and showing that researches the courses in which "culture" creates and changes singular experiences, ordinary life, social relations and power. Research and educating in the field explores the relations between society comprehended as human expressive and typical exercises, and societies comprehended as unmistakable lifestyles. Joining the qualities of the sociologies and the humanities, social studies draws on strategies and hypotheses from scholarly studies, humanism, interchanges concentrates on, history, social humanities, and financial matters. By working over the limits among these fields, social studies addresses new inquiries and issues of todays world. As opposed to looking for answers that will hold for unequaled, social studies creates adaptable devices that adjust to this quickly evolving world.
The key assumptions of cultural studies is the study of which people are conducted and organized in their society. The study can involve a duration of time in which the study evolves to show change. Since the subject of culture can be studied in many different fields, the concepts and theories are guides to fulfilling the work need to explore the culture. These theories or concepts are made of "cultural constructions" made by people. Our race, gender, sexuality are all theories that don't really exist because we created it to organize our society. In most cases these theories are used vastly among other studies to explore how people construct their culture and how the cultures impact shapes that person.
Cultural studies is basically the way that critics find ways to identify and study the lifestyles and upbringing of different races and ethnicities. By studying different cultures it looks into each aspect of their lifestyle such as gender, age, religion, sexual orientation etc. and try to portray it into the media to make it more relatable. Shows for each era such as My Wife and Kids would show black families with a father mother and kids living in a middle class neighborhood this helps the audience feel like this family is relatable to my family and are familiar with storyline on My Wife and Kids.
Cultural studies in the media gives the audience a overall viewpoint of the cultural background the movie is portraying. Based on the environment and the society the viewer will be able to make those assumptions. In the movie "Baby Boy" the Director John Singleton clearly shows the viewers the cultural background that the characters come from through the use of fashion. Cultural Studies analyzes encoding and decoding, the movie Babel showed the studies of four different cultures in one movie, Americans, Mexicans, Japanese and the Moroccans.
Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. directors use a person background and enviroment to help move plot along. fresh prince of belair showed a rich black family with the main character being from the ghetto and trying to better his life. they use that when he moves there and hows all this luxury is new to him. Babel was another example they used all kind of different cultures to show each other situation in a different light.
Cultural studies is a field of studies that draws from many different subject areas, including sociology, anthropology, political science, and history. Although it is sometimes misunderstood as being the study of popular culture, it is the study of the ways in which culture is constructed and organized and the ways in which it evolves and changes over time. From the cultural studies perspective, in my opinion things like race, gender, or disability don't really exist but are instead concepts or beliefs that people have created in order to organize their cultures or societies. A prime example would be the movie we watched in class Babel, the movie was all about miscommunication. 4 different cultural families were displayed and how each one was a hyperlink to the next, they all had something in common; the rifle.
Cultural studies allow creators of media content that portrays a certain demographic such as race, age, religion, etc., to gain a comprehensive understanding of the demographic or culture that is being examined. They allow the audience to have an authentic experience and depiction of any culture. For instance, if I was preparing to do a drama film on Irish religion, I would have to engage in cultural studies in order to present a thorough depiction of Irish culture.
Cultural studies is a way of understanding or identifying all cultures. Cultural studies in the aspect of media, gives people the chance to interact with a movie or TV show that shares the culture of a another civilization. Giving people the perception that they my or may not be similar after ones own analysis on a cultural through the media.
Cultural studies incorporate the idiology of different groups based on things such as race, sex, and nationality. It helps the adueience gain a general understanding of different cultures throughout the world. A hyper link film like Babel transition from the perspectives of American, Asian, and Middle Eastern cultures. It helps a person such as myself who doesn't understand much about culture overseas.
Cultural Studies critics analyzes the relationship between the encoding and decoding of cultural products like film, tv and radio. One of the key assumptions of cultural studies critics is that capitalist societies are divided. These societies are divided by race, age, nation, gender, religion and political affiliation. Another assumption is in social relations there is a struggle for social power between the dominant class and the subordinatesd class. In media the dominant class tries to produce media that serves their interest while the subordinate class attempts to resist that media and produce their own content which serves their own interest.
One of the key assumptions of cultural studies critics is that text is not self-sufficient and it doesn't have it's own meanings. They also assume the text doesn't have the same influence on all readings. When a form of media is produce the creator has influence on the messages the product is sending. The messages can be interpreted differently depending on the audience. For example, in class we talked about how a movie like Do the Right Thing can be interpreted differently between a group of African-Americans and a group of another race. The difference in our cultural and social experiences can affected the way we interpret media.
Cultural studies are based off race, age, gender, and other subjects of that nature. It focuses on critical theory and criticism of race. messages can be decoded differently depending on the audience. It helps people understand the different cultures of the world. Cultural study gathers it's research and produces theories based on literary studies, sociology, communication studies, history, cultural anthropology, and economics. Babel is a great example. Directors used multiple cultures to show each others situation in a different perspective.
Culture is a way in which a person lives and in cultural studies critics analyze encoding and decoding. In Menace II Society some of the cultural studies were among African-Americans. Most of the race findings were in fact more stereotypes such as blacks kids not having fathers, young black men being thugs and around the time most people that lived in California after the Watts riot experienced these, such as Caine. Cultural studies also include gender, cultural symbols and identity. The media uses cultural studies to make the audience members take a side or simply have an idea about the topic. Some of the messages could be positive while some can be negative.

Cultural Studies, although it is sometimes misunderstood as being the study of popular culture, cultural studies is, in fact, the study of the ways in which culture is constructed and organized and the ways in which it evolves and changes over a period of time. A great example of cultural studies is Will Smith in The Pursuit of Happiness. In this movie a black father teaches his son that anything can be accomplished through handwork and dedication. Cultural studies is based off of race, age and gender. Cultural studies produces work based off of literary studies, psychology and history. - Brian Henderson
Cultural Studies are concerned with the ways cultural artifacts produce meaning which link viewers with society. There are Methods employed by cultural studies critics. These include; Ethnographic, Structural/Semiotic, and Ideological Criticism which includes but is not limited to elements of narrative theory, genre theory, and feminism. There are assumptions of cultural studies/ ideological criticism. One is that cultural products are produced within specific social/ historical context by and for specific groups. Another is that ,because of their cultural/ historical specificity, cultural artifacts express and promote values, beliefs, and ideas which are impacted by the context in which they are produced, distributed, and received.
Cultural studies can appear as stereotypical because it categorizes people, places and things based off its appearance and its way of life and/or norms. It also includes aspects of encoding and decoding people, places and things. It helps people understand the different cultures of the world. Cultural study simply gathers research about a specific culture produces theories to define it. With that being said, Babel is a great example. Directors used multiple cultures to display their way of life. D. Rashai Jones

Culture is the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group. Cultural studies is a field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis that concentrates upon the political dynamics of contemporary culture, its historical foundations, defining traits, and conflicts. Cultural studies researchers generally investigate how cultural practices relate to wider systems of power associated with or operating through social phenomena, such as ideology, class structures, national formations, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, and generation. Cultural studies views cultures not as fixed, bounded, stable, and discrete entities, but rather as constantly interacting and changing sets of practices and processes.
Cultural studies are important to film because it elaborates on how culture affect an individuals view, social relations, experiences, and day to day living. It is also understood to be a new way of receiving answers to certain scenarios, typically theoretical, empirical, and political. Some components of identifying the cultural studies are based on race, age, gender, religion, and economic class in society. The relationship between culture understood as human expressive and symbolic activities, and cultures understood as distinctive ways of life are considered factors of cultural studies. When dealing with film, cultural studies are a way for filmmakers and writers to connect to the audience by appealing to who they are really. For an example, in Boyz ‘n the Hood, the neighborhood of South Central appeals to the African American race versus the film Clueless that takes place in Beverly Hills that appeals more to the Caucasian race. -Tori R. Henry
Cultural Studies is a field of hypothetically, politically, and observationally connected with social examination that concentrates upon the political flow of contemporary culture, its authentic establishments, characterizing characteristics, and clashes. Cultural Studies contain three strategies which are: ethnographic, basic semiotic and ideological criticism. These alone help you to better understand some of the key assumptions of the Cultural Studies critics in regard to media.
Cultural Studies is, more or less, the political, sociological, economic and/or theoretical science of the development of ideas, power structures, codes, languages and histories designed by individuals who share common interests, experiences and compatible perspectives. An abstract derivation of sociology, philosophy and psychology, cultural studies explains the construction of the rationalized/irrationalized norms that remain attached to a certain social group but at the same time, promotes an vague and often misconstrued bias surrounding a whole marginalized establishment of individuals. For example, during the War on Drugs, the crack epidemic rose at an astronomical magnitude, causing unemployment, homelessness, poverty, low scholastic enrollment, increased jail population, racial discrimination, gang violence and numerous reoccurring issues that still, inevitably, affect people of color. While dangerous narcotics and drugs were placed in Black communities by the government, distributed and capitalized by members of Black gang organizations, hustlers, pimps and drug kingpins, law enforcement officers would most likely stop and frisk innocent, unarmed Black men who are not even associated with criminal activity of distributing, transferring or selling of drugs and prosecute them even without any physical evidence or murder them on sight.
This has led many people to remain offended and/or enraged whenever a film is produced and their culture is stereotyped in the most inaccurate manner. Like how Black men are characterized as hoodlums, thugs, hardened criminals, without a father, abusive, emotional and often in an unrelenting quest for his sense of manhood as well as a victim of his own egotism. Black women are often depicted as either nice and petite or loud and obnoxious depending on their skin tone, materialistic, promiscuous, having multiple kids out of wedlock, sexually explicit, obnoxious, snobbish, dumb and mentally unstable. Arabs and Muslims are depicted as terrorists, extremists and rapists who don’t support educations, are commencing an international jihad against the US, misogynists and worship the moon. Mexicans are drug kingpins, own drug cartels and are bloody savages who castrate and devoid the bowels of their native people, make burritos, tacos and quesadillas or would drive down the street in a ’64 Impala blasting La Cucaracha out of their car stereo to make their presence known. So many stereotypical misconceptions, while it may have been exhibited in a single group of people, does not define a whole marginalized culture of people and should be considered as extremely crucial when analyzing people in their native environment because what most producers, directors and writers fail to realize is; your interpretation of a certain social group, class or individual misinforms the audience of how to interact with certain people, causing them to become ignorant or biased towards their perception of them and eliminates the ability to diversify and coexist peacefully. So, with that being said, when you study a culture, make sure your research is correct and thoroughly represents people as they are and not what you would either assume or would like them to be.
Cultural Studies are used in film in view of religion, sexual orientation, age, financial class, race and nationality. The supposition is that you can engage an extremely enthusiastic part of your gathering of people by underlining the social contrasts and giving a particular POV in a social circumstance. Much like how in the movie "Babel" the media accepted that a solitary assault on an American national was psychological warfare in view of where the assault occurred. This spoke to the enthusiastic side of Americans since it was delivered and discharged after 9/11. It additionally underlined the programmed suspicions and emotionalism made by American media when a nation like Morocco is included. Cultural Studies have simple access to feelings with crowds on account of the nonstop tribulations to defeat social contrasts.
Social reviews is a field of hypothetically, politically, and exactly drew in social investigation that concentrates upon the political flow of contemporary culture, its recorded establishments, characterizing attributes, and clashes. Social reviews specialists for the most part research how social practices identify with more extensive frameworks of energy related with or working through social wonders, for example, philosophy, class structures, national arrangements, ethnicity, sexual introduction, sex, and era. Social reviews sees societies not as settled, limited, stable, and discrete substances, but instead as continually communicating and changing arrangements of practices and processes. The field of social reviews envelops a scope of hypothetical and methodological points of view and practices. Albeit particular from the orders of social human sciences and ethnic reviews, social reviews draws upon and has added to each of these orders.
In the "Social Reviews" demonstrate, "culture" is a field of clashing and contending powers coming about because of organized asymmetries in power, capital, and esteem.
Social Reviews as a scholastic field has been blamed for dematerializing or leveling media content with a specific end goal to typify ideological and political messages for investigation. The approach is regularly additionally described as an "impacts" model of investigation that spotlights on entrepreneur and corporate components of control and as a rule discards the organization and movement of people, gatherings, and subcultures who are the recipients and clients of media.
Cultural studies spans across the topics of race, religion, sexual orientation and even geographic location. Misinterpreted as being the study of people, it is actually the study of their culture. This falls into their beliefs, their ideology and their day to ay way of living. When in filmm, it is always the best idea to do plenty of research when it comes to a group of people and their culture. The truth of the film will be measured by how true the director was to the culture. A culture can also effect the genre of a film. A comedy would be a lot different in Bollywood as opposed to America. The pace of an action film in Japan would be different than in Europe. Culture is a key factor in all film making.
Cultural studies concentrates on way of life and how people are seen in light of their ethnicity and socially characterizes individuals by race, gender, age and religious beliefs. They accept with the specific concentration it will make the gathering of people trust this gathering of people act this specific way. For example, the movie Daddy's Little Girl's, is about a black man that is living in a poor neighborhood and is trying to gain his kids back from custody from their mother. It gives the stereotype of how black men live in the projects and are trying to take care of their kids. Cultural studies simply gathers research about a specific culture produces theories to define it.
Cultural studies in the media is the study of race, stereotypes, demographics, political views, and gender. In other words, a way people live their lives and what they are exposed to. The way people will look at the outside world, is shown by the way they were brought in the world. The assumption is that you can appeal to a very emotional aspect of your audience by emphasizing the cultural differences and providing a specific point of view in a cultural situation. Examples of this would be shows having the same theme like family sitcoms but have different race groups represented on the cast. For example, “Friends” vs. “Living Single”, both shows have a group of friends living in the same apartment building just trying to make it day to day in a big city. Both shows have the same basis but are represented by different race groups to reach the prospective audiences.
Cultural studies in the media is the overall study of race, stereotypes, demographics, political views, and gender. It helps people understand the different cultures of the world. Cultural study produces theories based on literary studies, sociology, communication studies, history, cultural anthropology, economics, and many other things. They allow the audience to have an authentic experience and depiction of any culture. A perfect example of being able to see many different cultures through cinema, would have to be through Babel. The way a culture is depicted throughout a film in some countries, will determine how the world, or even a certain society will portray someone or group. An other example of how film was used in term of culture, was when Hitler would us propaganda to justify the killing of jews, by either making films depicting the horrible nature, or would have himself be speaking about how terrible they are, and share the message vastly especially since it was filmed.
Cultural studies refer to the generation and circulation of meanings in industrial and informational societies. Culture itself means a way of living. With cultural studies, an artifact produces meanings which link viewers with society and this creates a sense of identity. One type of cultural study is ethnographic. This represents the values, beliefs, ideas and rituals that are presented in a film and how it relates to society. The second type is structural and semiotics. This deals with how the film is out together. Semiotics includes different shots, close ups, signified, signifier, denotative and connotative. The third type deals with ideological criticism. Ideology is a system of ideas one forms based on theory. Ideological criticism focuses on a dominant ideology to silence opposing and contrary ideologies. Cultural studies is important to media because it aids viewers on how they perceive the world to be. If a movie showcases an Indian family then how those characters act will be how viewers associate Indian families to be. It is important to depict cultures how they really are to prevent false portrayals.
Cultural studies basically studies the aesthetic of relationships, and questions the understandings, beliefs, and histories that shape our world. In regards to media, its the study of media in its historical, economic, social and political context. The term cultural studies is exactly what is sounds like, you are studying not people, but the culture of those people. I believe that the movie "Babel" is a great example of cultural studies. Each of the families, whether in Morroco, Mexico, Japan, or the U.S. all had similarly related issues, but because of where they came from each family handled the situations as they would in their own culture. Whoever created the film (Alejandro Gonzalez) had to do a great deal of research or cultural studies to properly portray each race. This is the reason why cultural studies is important in film because when representing a society that is not your own it the goal not to offend those people by wrongly portraying their culture. Not only that, but to give understanding of the way others live to each people who may not be from that particular area of the world. Screen media is extremely diverse and reaching across boundaries requires the proper studies and research.
Cultural Studies is the way people live and study culture. It shows how you can use research to show demographics, race, geography, gender and other things. It is mostly seen in a stereotypical way. It gives a misrepresentation of a race or culture. Directors and filmmakers use it to appeal to these specific races to make money, however majority of the stereotypes and cliches used are false.
Cultural studies is a field of politically and observational connected with social examination that concentrates upon the political flow of contemporary culture. Culture means a way of living. With cultural studies an artifact produces meanings which link viewers with society and creates a sense of identity. One type of cultural study is ethnographic. This represents the values, beliefs, ideas, and rituals that are presented.
Cultural studies is field of study , research , and teaching that explores the way in which culture creates and transforms an individuals , everyday life ,social relations , and power. It deals with culture as a part of the way humans carry on everyday. This field is evolving and changing everyday with culture. Film makers for example use cultural studies to determine their audiences discourse. For example the film we watched in class "Babel" filmmakers put in time into studying and analyzing the different cultures to bring the film together. This film displayed different cultures through mostly language barriers the families had. When using cultural studies the goal is to be able to reach different people or give them the opportunity to look into others cultures and also not to offend any certain groups of people.
Cultural studies is an interdisciplinary field of studies, which means that it draws from many different subject areas, including sociology, anthropology, political science, and history. Although it is sometimes misunderstood as being the study of popular culture, cultural studies is, in fact, the study of the ways in which culture is constructed and organized and the ways in which it evolves and changes over time.
The field of cultural studies emerged from the Birmingham Center for Contemporary Cultural Studies in the UK, which, beginning in 1968, was headed by Stuart Hall. While there were many scholars who contributed important work to the field during its infancy, Hall's pioneering work put cultural studies on the map, and he is generally accepted as the discipline's most important figure.
Originally developed by British academics, cultural studies has came to be an important field in the area of film. Cultural studies is used to assist in concentration of the political aspects of film. Defining arguments, historical artifacts and more, are observed when it comes to cultural studies. A problem with cultural studies is that it sometimes forces researchers of cultural studies to take into consideration people whom are socially organized or have their own beliefs.
Cultural studies is a combination different theories, from feminist theory to race theory. All have played a part in analyzing the different societies and periods in history. Cultural studies overall purpose is to help understand the meaning behind social production and the formation of social groups.
The Media and Cultural Studies, study the media in their historical, economic, social, and political context. Cultural studies is a field of theoretically and engagement cultural analysis that concentrates on the political dynamics of contemporary culture, its historical foundations, traits, and conflicts. One type of cultural study is structural and semiotics. This study deals with how the film is put together. Semiotics includes different angles, close up shots, the signified and signifier, as well as the denotative and connotative meaning.
Cultural studies views cultures not as fixed, bounded, stable, and discrete entities, but rather as constantly interacting and changing sets of practices and processes. Culture Studies the study of popular culture, especially in conjunction with the political problematic of identity and difference. Cultural studies is concerned with describing the ways cultural forms and practices are produced within, inserted to, and operate in and affect the everyday life of human beings and social formations. The movie Babel is a great example of cultural studies because they analyzed different cultures in the film.
Cultural Studies is the way individuals live by there social experience to life. The way an individual is raised relies upon how they will take a gander at things on that outside world, along these lines that will influence their social encounters. Social structure is held together by implications of social encounters. For instance more than likely individuals that are African American can identify with Tyler Perry Films in light of the fact that in those movies it demonstrates the social foundation of most African Americans.
Cultural studies can simply be defined as the way people live, how a person's culture is organized and how it develops and changes over time. Babel was a film that showed inside of the lives of different cultures and races and showed their situations in different perspectives.
Cultural studies can be seen as a persons social experience in life an how they conduct themselves in society. Cultural studies views cultures not as fixed, bounded, stable, and discrete entities, but rather as constantly interacting and changing sets of practices and processes.
Cultural studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. These studies are important to film because it elaborates on how culture affect an individuals view, social relations, experiences, and day to day living. Writers are trying to connect to an audience by focusing on social practices that are common. Such as sexual orientation, gender roles, and ethnicity. By doing this, it makes society think that the writers acts that way in reality. For an example, in Boyz ‘n the Hood, the neighborhood of South Central appeals to the African American race versus the film 13 Going On 30 that takes place in an suburb area that appeals more to the Caucasian race.
Cultural studies makes use of critical theory and literal criticism of race. In the media, cultural studies depicts ethnicity, social class, gender, and sexuality. These studies are important to film because it elaborates on how culture affect an individuals view, social relations, experiences, and day to day living. The writers try to connect with the audience, having a great influence on them that one's culture behaves a certain way. Cultural studies is important to media because it aids viewers on how they perceive the world to be. An example would be Real Housewives of Atlanta. It's a reality show based off African American housewives who's involved in drama and fights. Allowing the audience to believe that all African American housewives behave in a rudely manner. While the The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills are portrayed to be classy and rich.Influencing the audience that all housewives in Beverly hills are classy , stuck up and rich.
Cultural studies is the way that culture creates and transform a person experiences, social life, everyday life and power. In the media, researchers use ethnicity, social class and gender to create films that shows a representation of this. Writers try to connect with us which has a influence on how we think we are suppose to behave. Many shows in fact have a false interpretation on how the culture is for instance reality shows and drama movies may have others think that a culture may act in a bad way when in fact its nothing to how we many actually behave.
Cultural studies is an important issue when it comes to media. If a specific culture is portrayed in a film it can lead to positive ratings and a larger viewing audience. In today's society we have films, commercials, T.V shows, and advertisements that can be observed or catered to a particular race or culture. Cultural studies is a key factor to look at when developing any type of media. The relationship between culture understood as human expressive and symbolic activities, and cultures understood as distinctive ways of life are considered factors of cultural studies. When dealing with film, cultural studies are a way for filmmakers and writers to connect to the audience by appealing to who they are really.
Cultural studies is the a practice many people in the communication field use to get a better understanding of different cultures, communities, and groups. It is when one chooses to put him or herself in another culture, community, or group for a certain amount of time and study the groups customs, traits, habits, and so forth. It is an ideological method that is used to show connection and differences amongst the people of our world. This is used when a filmmaker's story line is around a culture different form their own. In order to create a story one must be apart of it and understand in order to make it as realistic as possible.
Cultural studies is a field of research that studies a wide variety of cultural aspects. These aspects may include race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, social class, etc. This study examines the ways in which culture creates individual experiences as a whole so that it is easier for the media to appeal to certain audiences. Although many "reality" television shows today are staged, they rely on cultural studies to help build their story lines. Many of these studies are tied to stereotypical beliefs, but they still catch the intended audience's attention.
Cultural studies is devoted to understanding the processes through which societies and the diverse groups within them come to terms with history, community life, and the challenges of the future. The way it shows different ways to see the complex if others eyes is amazing.
Cultural study simply gathers research about a specific culture produces theories to define it. With that being said, Babel is a great example. Directors used multiple cultures to display their way of life. Cultural studies is strictly a structural ideological criticism of typically the structure of a narrative and the genre of the piece. Now within a specific culture products are produced that mirror the lifestyles of those members in that social realm, and within those places of course members have there own established ideologies that they are aligned with and promote their personal beliefs, values, and ideas.By studying different cultures it looks into each aspect of their lifestyle such as gender, age, religion, sexual orientation.
Cultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which “culture” creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. The media focus mostly on different ethnicities and race to see how they are going to appeal to different audiences and be able to relate to them
Cultural studies focuses on lifestyle and how individuals are viewed based upon their demographics or upbringing. for example, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, where Will Smith is front Philly, where he lives in the hood and has nothing really but he is forced to move to Bel-Air with his uncle Phil and his cousins Carlton, Hilary and Ashely. They are rich and plan on attending ivy league schools. and it just tells the story on how Will is adjusting to his new situation
Cultural studies draws from many different subject areas, including sociology, anthropology, political science, and history. Cultural studies is the study of which people are conducted and organized in their society. The study takes place in a lengthy amount of time in order to receive the full experience. For example, if a person were to travel to a different country to conduct a cultural study on a specific group of people, he or she would participate in all activities to receive the full experience.
Cultural studies play a big part in media because the media has a very powerful platform that can make people believe certain things. Different cultures have different morals and lifestyles, this is why we must adapt and learn different ways so that we are not one sided. TV can have a huge effect on people. For example, the socially stabilizing influences of family and peer groups influence children’s television viewing and the way they process media messages. If an individual’s family or social life plays a major part in he/she life, the social messages that he/she receives from these groups may compete with the messages he/she receives from television.
Cultural studies is the fixed depiction of lifestyle and culture. This determines how people are viewed and is typically assessed by said persons demographics or upbringing. A great example in film would be the show Black-ish. Blackish relates to cultural studies because it focuses on the Andre Johnson and his family who are considered to be apart of the upper middle class due to their financial well being. Andre and Bow have great careers because of their strong educational background unlike most African Americans in society. Cultural studies is used here to push the ideology that coming from a well educated background puts you at this level in society where as not coming from a background like this can put you and your family in harsher circumstances.
Cultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which “culture” creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. Cultural studies are important in today’s society because it interprets things that are currently going on. An example of cultural studies would be Willy Wonka. It may not involve quite as many people drowning in chocolate or turning into giant blueberries, but it's a theoretical theme park where you open the door and you're spoiled sweet for choice. Early media studies focused on the use of mass media in propaganda and persuasion. However, journalists and researchers soon looked to behavioral sciences to help figure out the effect of mass media and communications on society.
Cultural studies is a field of research that studies a wide variety of cultural aspects. This variety of things ranges from race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, social class, and many more. This study examines the ways in which culture creates trends and the behaviors and habits of individuals that make up a whole society. Most of the cultural studies is simplified now because you have things like television and social media and studies will show that trends are mostly learned behavior. The relationship between culture as a human and expression of symbolic activities can be considered culture. When dealing with film, cultural studies are a way for filmmakers and writers to connect to the audience by appealing to them directly.
When discussin cultural studies one must define what culture is exactly. Culture is a way of living within the industrial or information society. Cultural studies is neither humanist or asthmatics in emphasis but is political. Cultural studies critics analyze the relationship between the encoding and decoding of any cultural product whether is be tv, radio, or film. Cultural studies is strictly a structural ideological criticism of typically the structure of a narrative and the genre of the piece.
Cultural studies relies on a definition of culture which is neither humanist or aesthetic in emphasis – but political. Cultural studies is concerned with the generation and circulation of meanings in industrial and information societies. Cultural studies critics analyze the relationship between the encoding and decoding of any given cultural products: Film, Tv, radio, magazines, sub cultural formations (Rastas, Gays, New Republicans)
Assumptions of Cultural: Cultural products are produced within specific social/historical context by and for specific groups. Ex. Tv
Capitalist societies are divided societies
Gender has come to replace class at the most significant producer of social difference
Other axis of division include race, age, nation, subgroup, religion, occupation, education, political afflilation.
Cultural studies is truly important to film because it helps understand how culture affects individuals view, and there everyday life. It can also be the answer to many scenarios, such as theoretical, and especially political. Many components of identifying the cultural studies is based of age, gender, and your social status. The media uses cultural studies to make the people choose a side or basically have ideas about the topic. the messages could be negative and some the messages could be positive.
Some of the key assumptions of Cultural Studies in regards to media involve sex, race, social class and sexuality to name a few. Cultural studies is defined as the field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis that concentrates upon the political dynamics of contemporary culture, its historical foundations, defining traits, conflicts, and contingencies. This field is vital to media being that you need to understand society to appease or entertain. Mediums like social media and the internet gives some rhetoric for what people like, dislike and things that are(n't) acceptable. Social media especially with its marketing and availability to communicate with people around the world.
As most productions are marketed toward specific demographics such as children, women between 18 and 30, or senior citizens, they can also be marketed toward a specific culture. While we as humans are divided by age and gender, we are also divided by culture. In the movie Babel, Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu did an incredible job of creating a massive divide between each culture, especially surrounding the wedding. The most obvious signifier for contrast was the presence of Richard and Susan's children, as they are the only Caucasian Americans at the wedding. On the way to the wedding, Richard's son says to Santiago, "My mom said Mexico is dangerous",to which Santiago replies, "Yes, its full of Mexicans" sarcastically. Santiago was making a joke while also answering the question from the point of view of an American. This piece of dialogue expresses the misinterpretation of a society by an outsider.
Cultural studies is a field that can be derived from the research of class structures, ethnicity, sexual orientations, and gender. Directors as well as writers consider cultural studies when considering a film for production. Cultural studies aids as a tool for directors when considering what type of audience, the cinematography will connect to. For example, a film being brought forth portraying thugs growing up in south central Los Angeles will have an audience of individuals being brought op from the same demographics.
Culture studies includes sex, race, natianality, social class, and more. It is defined as the way people interpret the world within the different cuktures and nationalities that there are. It gives you an understanding in media because it shows what society is into. For example, society is now interested in reality tv. It is what entertains them the most. Also, social media is big in society too. It is a platform for people to gain popularity. Other people see it and want to do the same thing. This is what society has accepted as what they wish to amount to.
Cultural Studies applies critical theory and criticisms of race while investigating the ways in which culture creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, entertainment, social relations and power. What producers and shows are working to accomplish is to establish a deeper connection between society as it is and what is shown on television. There is however, a certain delicacy of cultural studies in regards to film is delicate line that is often ignored by the film industry. When given the proper respect, displaying various cultures such as black culture, shines a light on what society perceives as “dark areas.” Shows such as “A Different World,” “Black-ish,” and “The Cosby Show” showed America that Black families are more than the stereotypical “single-mother, absent father” households and economically disadvantaged.
Cultural studies includes the study of different demographics including gender, race, social class, and others. Producers use cultural studies in order to connect with their target audience. In today's society, there are a lot of black reality tv shows versus shows based around black successful people and or families. Overall the purpose of cultural studies is to help understand the meaning behind various social groups.
Cultural studies is a field that applies to gender, social class, race, nationality, and other broad topics. Television shows and producers use cultural studies in order to establish a relationship with their audience. They use topics they apply to their audience by using things their audience can relate to. Networks such as BET, and TVone try to relate to their black audeince by focusing on shows based on current black demographics.
Cultural studies relates to demographics , race , gender, education , social class and etc. This enables the writer to create a script and plot that can ensnare viewers by what is going on in the real world at the moment, or what is important to the audience. Using social issues , controversial topics and or topics that relate specifically to a certain race or ethnical group can be defined as cultural studies , and why it is important in film. As an example , Boyz in the hood has themes of poverty , African Americans attempting to make it out of the hood and failing, having children at a young age , and black on black crime are all social factors for African Americans that come from cultural studies and are applied in film.
Cultural studies is relating of how one lives. Meaning how one deppcits there way though society in media it can depend not only on race, gender, religion , education, ethnicity, social class, age. Using this can help one see and understand what the audience may want or it can just based towards one audience. It is important to film to know who you are broadcasting to. You have kids shows Ben 10, Hispanic shows George Lopez, Caucasian shows Big Bang Theory, African American B.E.T and etc. It can help one analyze what the topic and issue it may have based what relation it may have to a certain audience
Cultural studies is an field of research that investigates the ways in which “culture” creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. By working across the boundaries among these fields, cultural studies addresses new questions and problems of today’s world. Rather than seeking answers that will hold for all time, cultural studies develops flexible tools that adapt to the rapidly changing world.Cultural studies is devoted to understanding the processes through which societies and the diverse groups within them come to terms with history, community life, and the challenges of the future.
Cultural studies is the field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis that concentrates upon the political dynamics of contemporary culture, its historical foundations, defining traits, conflicts, and contingencies. Some key assumptions made by critics in regard to the media may be based on gender, sexual orientation, religion, social class, and ethnicity. For example, sitcoms like Family Matter or George Lopez give off this stereotypical role of how an average ethnic family operates in their everyday life. Cultural studies have been made of use in multiple films and television programs whether it be reality, animation, or just your typical family sitcom. The utilization of cultural studies in any production allow viewers the opportunity to attempt to understand a completely different demographic and way of living regardless of the obvious differences.

Cultural practices relates to a wider system associating with gender, sexual orientation, and generation, etc. This attracts certain viewers because it shows what is going on in the real world.
Cultural studies is the field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis that focuses on the political dynamics of contemporary culture it's historical foundations, defining traits, conflicts, and contingencies. It is the study of the ways in which culture is constructed and organized and the ways in which it evolves and changes over time.Research and teaching in the field explores the relations between culture understood as human expressive and symbolic activities, and cultures understood as distinctive ways of life.
Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and exact criticism of race. Simply, the media’s concentrations on mutual social act such as, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc. Many sitcoms and “reality” shows are mostly theatrical but they enquire on cultural revisions. They attempt to persuade audiences that this is the exact way of society acts. Old shows such as The Cosby Show or Good Times were very biased in these regards as well. They depicted families that lived as the upper-class black family and lower-class of a black family. They usually had funny, but real-life situations. Overall, cultural studies can make and break television shows and movies.
Cultural studies focuses on lifestyle and how individuals are viewed based upon their ethnicity and socially defines people by race, gender, age and religious beliefs. They believe with the certain focus it will make the audience believe this group of individuals act this particular way.
Cultural studies uses the theory on how people are. This terms depicts ethnicity, social class, gender, and sexuality. It has existed since it could be shown to others. I remember watching Gunsmoke once and it was a Caucasian man acting as a Native American. This was presenting the stereotypes of Native Americans at that time with westerns. They thought they were savages. Shows now choose particular social issues to display so it can be shown and that's how the audience sees this.
Cultural studies is a field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis that concentrates upon the political dynamics of contemporary culture. In other words meaning how individuals are portrayed as to the world as far as our ethnicity, race, gender, age, and also religious beliefs. Social media plays a big role in that too just as much as movies. They portray individuals something as they're not and then it has a big influence on how the world sees certain people and it makes them think of us or others in a certain way and most of the time its negative.
Cultural studies is the field of Politically, Empirically, and Theoretically engaged cultural analysis that focuses on the dynamics of contemporary culture, defining traits, contingencies, conflicts, and historical foundations. Cultural studies also is the study of how the culture is built and how it is organized through its changes and evolutions over time. Examples of what is considered in the studies are sexual orientation, gender, race, and age. As time continues to change, what we see and hear over various forms of media will change to keep up with society.
cultural Studies is the study of lifestyles of people and based on ethnicity and social. its defined by race, gender, age, beliefs and even environments.
Cultural Studies relies on culture, which isn't humanist or aesthetics. Culture is a way of living in an industrial or informational society that includes the social experience. Cultural Studies deals with generation and circulation of industrial and informational societies. It produces meaning and link viewers to society. Cultural Studies Critics analyze the relationship between the encoding and decoding of Film, TV., Radio, Magazines, Subculture. There are three methods employed by cultural studies critics; they are ethnographic, structural/semiotic, and Ideological Criticism. Ideological Criticism can deal with subjects like narrative and genre theory, and feminism. However, it is not limited to any of these. With Cultural Studies, the overall take is to know the culture of your audience when you are writing, creating, and producing film and television. Disney wouldn't produce a show on their network that would have adult content like something on Vh1.
Cultural studies relates to gender, race, education, demographics and many more. Cultural Studies uses criticism of race and critical theory. Cultural studies is a field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis that concentrates upon the political dynamics of contemporary culture. In the show good times, it relates to cultural studies by the Evans family struggling to maintain, a living because they did not have a decent jobs, stayed in a lower class community.. etc
Some of the key assumptions are meanings, culture, subordinated class, dominant class, and the attempt to naturalize. Meanings are produced and not inherent and meaning production are linked to the social structure, which is held together by meanings that culture produce: meanings of social experiences and meaning of the self. Culture is ideological. Subordinated classes produce meanings that serve their own interest, while dominant class attempt to naturalize the meanings that serve their own interest. The attempt to naturalize is seen as the work of ideology inscribed in the cultural practices of a given group.
Cultural Studies deal with the generation and circulation of meanings in industrial/ informational societies. The study of culture is based off of political thought not humanistic thought. The outcome of the cultural studies are developed by using different methods such as ethnographic, structural/semiotics, and ideological criticisms. The cultural studies have a huge affect on the media. The culture that is show cased in the media is supposed to mirror everyday like of an individual. It helps show case the differences in each culture by literally using data from a specific group.Cultural studies can be used to create content for movies and commercials shown in specific areas.
Cultural studies insist that culture must be studied within the social relations and system through which culture is produced and consumed, and that thus study of culture is intimately bound up with the study of society, politics, and economics. Cultural studies show how media culture articulates the dominant values, political ideologies, and social developments and novelties of the era. It conceives of U.S. culture and society as a contested terrain with various groups and ideologies struggling for dominance. Television, film, music, and other popular cultural forms are thus often liberal or conservative, or occasionally express more radical or oppositional views. Cultural studies allow us to examine and critically scrutinize the whole range of culture without prior prejudices toward one or another sort of cultural text, institution, or practice. It also opens the way toward more differentiated political, rather than aesthetic, valuations of cultural artifacts in which one attempts to distinguish critical and oppositional from conformist and conservative moments in a cultural artifact. Cultural studies are not just another academic fad but can be a part of a struggle for a better society.
Cultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. These studies are important because it shows how culture affects individuals. Film makers write tv shows, movies, and commercials to help allow viewers to see different perspectives and cultures around the world. For example, shows like “Living single” “ A Different World” and “ The Fresh Prince of Bel Air” allow people to see black families uplift each other through hard times. This allows view to not just base people off of stereotypes. Another example is Babel was another example they used all kinds of different cultures to show each other the situation in a different light.
Darrell Emerson: Cultural studies refers to sexuality, gender, race, age, politics, etc... Basically, cultural studies deals with the way in which culture transforms everyday life. It addresses new questions and problems of today’s world. In the show, Everybody Hates Chris, it shows the struggle of your typical A African American family in a low class neighborhood. It specifically focuses on what it's like to be the oldest child in a household with younger siblings and two parents who are struggling to barely making it happen. This is basically what families, specifically Black families go through today.

ReplyDeleteWhen it comes to cultural studies, the comic script created by David Morley, comes to mind.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies makes use of critical theory and literal criticism of race.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race.

ReplyDeleteThe term cultural studies takes me back to African American images in the media class with Dr.
ReplyDeleteAlso cultural studies links back to my study abroad summer in China.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies is the way people live by there social experience to life. The way an individual is brought up depends on how they will look at things on that outside world, therefore that will affect their cultural experiences. Social structure is held together by meanings of social experiences. For example more than likely people that are African American can relate to Tyler Perry Films because in those films it shows the cultural background of most African Americans.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies is just a way people live their lives and what they are exposed too. The way people will look at the outside world, is shown by the way they were brought in the world. Social structure go hand in hand with social experiences. For example African American family can relate to the T.V. show House of Payne vs. Malcolm in the Middle, because House of Payne relates to African American families.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies are utilized in film based on religion, gender, age, economic class, race and nationality.
ReplyDeletecultural studies seeks to understand how meaning is generated, disseminated, and produced from the social, political and economic spheres within a given culture.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies are developed in film constructed on demographic .
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies in media highlights some of the great or bad events in everyday life of everyday people. The media takes it and uses it to create influence towards a certain idea or product. This can also be good or bad with the media depending on how they want to influence the viewer.
ReplyDeleteMedia facilitates a culture's transmission to other cultures and vice versa. i.e. Every culture is influenced by other cultures around them, but with medias like internet, cultures are influenced by all the other cultures of the world.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies in fil is used to draw the audiences attention by focusing on controversial issues.

ReplyDeleteCultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies promotes values, beliefs, and ideas.
ReplyDeleteBy using cultural studies the media promotes certain beliefs and values to certain cultures and races.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies critics analyze the relationship between encoding and decoding in correspondence to cultural products film, television, radio, magazines, and sub-cultural formations.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies go into full dept of a film, TV, magazines, and sub-cultural formation.
ReplyDeleteWhereas media of previous generations may have referred to newspapers, magazines, and books, today’s media include an explosion of online/global networking systems (Twitter, Facebook, Bebo, YouTube), as well as a music culture that has moved beyond musical exchange to include the marketing and selling of culture, lifestyle, and products.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies is concerned with general and circulation of magazines in an industrial and informative society.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies depicts ethnicity and socially defines people by race, gender, age and religious beliefs.
ReplyDeleteIdentify and explain some of the key assumptions of the Cultural Studies critics in regard to media.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies depicts ethnicity, social class, gender, and sexuality thusly giving the viewers our own rendition of what these cultures are actually like.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is the study of how people live there lives according to what there exposed to through the media, there social experiance to life.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies investigates the way culture influences people and also how societies share meanings.
ReplyDeleteCultural study is how the world is observed from the audience point of view.
ReplyDeleteCultural study is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which “culture” creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies in my opinion the analysis of culture.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies makes use of critical theory and literal criticism of race. Viewers get to see how the average family of various cultures live together
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies is an synthesing approach to the study of culture and society that responds to and builds upon, critical analyses of traditional disciplines and epistemologies as well as upon developments specific to gender, ethnic, and sexuality studies.

ReplyDeleteCultural Studies in media defines the perception of a lifestyle for a particular culture.
ReplyDeleteIn conclusion, the media has a great influence on cultural studies. What the media release can be what others on the outside would believe.
-DeJane Thompson

ReplyDeleteCultural studies is a highly interdisciplinary field concerned with a variety of aspects of social life, drawing on social life, sociology, and political and and economic theory.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is an academic field of critical theory and literary criticism; the writers make a connection with how culture really is and incorporates it into their projects.

ReplyDeleteCultural studies opens a new way of finding answers instead of the same answers that will be around for all of time
Cultural studies implies that in the media it will we looked at from all sides regards to a topic. For example a news story they should look at it from the aspects of race gender and who it affects. For example the sandy hook shooting was brought to the attention of the American public by taking in the culture of nationhood and camaraderie in a hard time. These are cultural aspects the media use to promote the story.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies are utilized in film based on religion, gender, age, economic class, race and nationality.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is a scholarly field of theoretically, politically, and empirically engaged cultural analysis that was initially developed by British academics in the late 1950s, 60s and 70s, and has been subsequently taken up and transformed by scholars in many different fields around the world.Cultural studies insists that culture must be studied within the social relations and system through which culture is produced and consumed, and that thus study of culture is intimately bound up with the study of society, politics, and economics.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which people create and transform individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. Reality tv comes to mind because some people can relate, keep up with their favorite celebrity, or what is trending. Cultural studies target people emotions. People live their everyday life based off media. Cultural studies represents gender, race, sexuality, religion, social class, etc.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies could involve a certain race depending on the director of the film, for instance a director could choose to film a movie or documentary in Africa. The film or documentary would show and talk about the lives that Africans live and the way things are over in Africa it could give the audience viewing an idea of what the difference is as far as the lifestyle we lice over here Cultural studies really could relate to many numerous things cultural when filming a movie or documentary like music and etc.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies relies on the definition of culture, but not culture in a sense of form and beauty.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which “culture” creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies make use of critical theory and literal criticism of race.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies in media also have the power to highlight some of the great or bad events in everyday life of everyday people.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which culture creates and transforms individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies creates and transforms individual experiences and everyday life. i think people basically use cultural studies to base their opinion on race, stereotypes, religion, etc. for example he riot in Baltimore has white Americans looking at African Americans as thugs and no good people. white Americans would never give African Americans credit for the work we've done over the years, they would never acknowledge the people who paved the way for use.. instead they would only go by their everyday life experiences which is how black people are viewed in the media

ReplyDeleteCultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. Simply, the media focuses on common social practices such as, sexual orientation, ethnicity, etc. Many sitcoms and "reality" shows are mostly staged but they pry on cultural studies.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies are the study of how a group of people act and the way they go about everyday life. Critics in the media use this to group certain culture and cooperate the actions with their culture or race. Like the assimilationist mythology
ReplyDeleteWhich states that black anchors are selling hegemony, African Americans on the news makes racism worst by acknowledging black crimes as them reading the news stories to the audience.
ReplyDeleteFor example in sit-coms The Cobsy show and Good Times:
In The Cosby Show African Americans are portrayed in a middle class way.

I agree with Amber that cultural studies are used in the media to aim at products and services as well as depict a civilized household to manipulate people's moralities. This is only just a small piece of cultural studies revealed to the world. They use so many sources to create messages and deliver them to the public.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with Ms.
ReplyDeleteGood Times is another good example that relates to cultural like what Mrs.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies contain three methods which are: ethnographic, structural/ semiotic and ideological criticism.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies is a theory in which culture creates and transforms everyday life, individual experiences, social relations and power. an assumption of cultural studies is that culture is ideological.
ReplyDeleteCulture is defined as away of living within industrial or information society that encompasses all the meanings of that social experience.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies are very relevant to film because that shows the producers writers and creators how to depict characters and their surroundings even their behavior also things such as major events in history are used to depict our culture such as slavery 911 white American history. Cultural Studies are the blueprints in which film are built upon having accurate data on different cultures helps promote continuity in films and keep the watchers inside a believable realm of realism.

ReplyDeleteCultural Studies is the study of a culture and the way they live.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is strictly a structural ideological criticism of typically the structure of a narrative and the genre of the piece.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies emphasizes ethnicity and socially defines people by race, gender, age and religious beliefs.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies in media also have the power to highlight some of the great or bad events in everyday life of everyday people.
ReplyDeleteWe are concerned with thinking about identity and social roles, including gender, sexuality, race, class, and nation.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies takes a look at culture, power and identity as well as the critical theories. Cultural studies is used in TV, film, art and literature. It shows how we concern with identity and social roles such as gender, race, class and sexuality.
ReplyDeleteIn class we watched the film Babel which displayed cultural studies in the media.
ReplyDeleteCulture is defined as a way of living.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies critics analyze the relationship between encoding and decoding of any cultural products. Cultural Studies is concerned with the ways cultural artifacts procedure meaning link with the viewer in society. In the domain of culture the site of constant struggle centers around "Meanings"
Dominant Class they attempt to neutralize the meanings that serve their own interest
Subordinated Class resist this process and try to produce meanings that serve their own beliefs.

ReplyDeleteCultural studies focuses on lifestyle and how individuals are viewed based upon their ethnicity and socially defines people by race, gender, age and religious beliefs.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is an innovative interdisciplinary field of research and teaching that investigates the ways in which people create and transform individual experiences, everyday life, social relations and power. It gives encoding and decoding of how to look at a film and how to understand a film.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is an imaginative interdisciplinary field of exploration and showing that researches the courses in which "culture" creates and changes singular experiences, ordinary life, social relations and power. Research and educating in the field explores the relations between society comprehended as human expressive and typical exercises, and societies comprehended as unmistakable lifestyles. By working over the limits among these fields, social studies addresses new inquiries and issues of todays world. As opposed to looking for answers that will hold for unequaled, social studies creates adaptable devices that adjust to this quickly evolving world.
ReplyDeleteThe key assumptions of cultural studies is the study of which people are conducted and organized in their society.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is basically the way that critics find ways to identify and study the lifestyles and upbringing of different races and ethnicities.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies in the media gives the audience a overall viewpoint of the cultural background the movie is portraying.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies uses the critical theory and literal criticism of race. directors use a person background and enviroment to help move plot along. fresh prince of belair showed a rich black family with the main character being from the ghetto and trying to better his life. they use that when he moves there and hows all this luxury is new to him. Babel was another example they used all kind of different cultures to show each other situation in a different light.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is a field of studies that draws from many different subject areas, including sociology, anthropology, political science, and history.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies allow creators of media content that portrays a certain demographic such as race, age, religion, etc., to gain a comprehensive understanding of the demographic or culture that is being examined. They allow the audience to have an authentic experience and depiction of any culture. For instance, if I was preparing to do a drama film on Irish religion, I would have to engage in cultural studies in order to present a thorough depiction of Irish culture.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies is a way of understanding or identifying all cultures. Cultural studies in the aspect of media, gives people the chance to interact with a movie or TV show that shares the culture of a another civilization. Giving people the perception that they my or may not be similar after ones own analysis on a cultural through the media.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies incorporate the idiology of different groups based on things such as race, sex, and nationality. It helps the adueience gain a general understanding of different cultures throughout the world. A hyper link film like Babel transition from the perspectives of American, Asian, and Middle Eastern cultures. It helps a person such as myself who doesn't understand much about culture overseas.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies critics analyzes the relationship between the encoding and decoding of cultural products like film, tv and radio.
ReplyDeleteOne of the key assumptions of cultural studies critics is that text is not self-sufficient and it doesn't have it's own meanings.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies are based off race, age, gender, and other subjects of that nature.
ReplyDeleteCulture is a way in which a person lives and in cultural studies critics analyze encoding and decoding.

ReplyDeleteCultural Studies, although it is sometimes misunderstood as being the study of popular culture, cultural studies is, in fact, the study of the ways in which culture is constructed and organized and the ways in which it evolves and changes over a period of time.
ReplyDeleteCultural Studies are concerned with the ways cultural artifacts produce meaning which link viewers with society.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies can appear as stereotypical because it categorizes people, places and things based off its appearance and its way of life and/or norms. It also includes aspects of encoding and decoding people, places and things. It helps people understand the different cultures of the world. ReplyDeleteCulture is the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies are important to film because it elaborates on how culture affect an individuals view, social relations, experiences, and day to day living.

ReplyDeleteCultural Studies is, more or less, the political, sociological, economic and/or theoretical science of the development of ideas, power structures, codes, languages and histories designed by individuals who share common interests, experiences and compatible perspectives.
ReplyDeleteThis has led many people to remain offended and/or enraged whenever a film is produced and their culture is stereotyped in the most inaccurate manner.
-Jaylon O'Neal

ReplyDeleteIn the "Social Reviews" demonstrate, "culture" is a field of clashing and contending powers coming about because of organized asymmetries in power, capital, and esteem.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies concentrates on way of life and how people are seen in light of their ethnicity and socially characterizes individuals by race, gender, age and religious beliefs.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies in the media is the study of race, stereotypes, demographics, political views, and gender.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies in the media is the overall study of race, stereotypes, demographics, political views, and gender.
ReplyDeleteBy using cultural studies the media promotes certain beliefs and values to certain cultures and races.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies refer to the generation and circulation of meanings in industrial and informational societies.
ReplyDeleteCultural studies basically studies the aesthetic of relationships, and questions the understandings, beliefs, and histories that shape our world. ReplyDeleteCultural studies insist that culture must be studied within the social relations and system through which culture is produced and consumed, and that thus study of culture is intimately bound up with the study of society, politics, and economics.

It specifically focuses on what it's like to be the oldest child in a household with younger siblings and two parents who are struggling to barely making it happen. This is basically what families, specifically Black families go through today.
